Haiti - Social : $22 million to increase the production of potable water

As part of strengthening of the production of drinking water in the metropolitan area, a financing agreement of $22 million from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has been signed with the Haitian Government, through the National Directorate of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DINEPA).

Financed by the IDB and the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation and Development (AECID), this amounts, will fund major works in two sectoral groups.

In the first, which includes Béthanie, Siloé, Upper Tabarre, Delmas 19 to 83, Vivy Mitchel and Maïs Gâté, DINEPA will equip and connect 8 drilling, construct a pumping station, a reservoir of 2000 m3 and lay 8 km pipes 250 to 600 mm as well as a pipe under the Croix des Missions bridge. According DINEPA, this work will help to increase the daily production of 32,000 m3 of drinking water.

In the second grouping, which extends from Mariani to Arcachon 34, DINEPA will rehabilitate pumping, install 4 pumps and resize pipelines and dams, which will allow increase of 20,000 m3 the daily production of drinking water.

The works in these two sectoral groups, that are beneficial to nearly one million people are expected to begin in the first quarter 2016 and last 24 months.
