Saturday ended the 21th UN Climate Conference (COP21) held in Paris by France, which involved a large Haitian delegation. In his closing speech Dominique Pierre, Minister of the Environment of Haiti, declared in Paris at the prestigious forum :

"[...] The fruits have finally found the promise of flowers.

We adopt today a historic and ambitious agreement that will allow us to effectively fight against global warming. In my speech at the opening of the ministerial segment, I said, "we must make a choice: either make an eco energy revolution or take the path of a large catastrophic environmental and social disorder."

This December 12, 2015, we made the right choice: that of eco-energy revolution. We must now make this climate agreement, a new starting point for developing a resilient economy, low carbon and lay the foundations for a better future for generations to come.

I will return to Haiti, bringing hope. However, compared to concrete steps to be taken tomorrow in favor of vulnerable Small Island Developing States including Haiti, we propose to be very careful [...]"

The "day of Haiti" was an opportunity for the Haitian delegation to highlight the country's efforts in the fight against climate change. This day also allowed Haiti to renew the position defended by Haiti in the climate negotiations: provide additional funds for the Least Developed Countries (LDCs), taking account of losses and damages and limit the increase in global temperature below 1.5 degrees by the end of the century compared to pre-industrial times.
