This week Jacobo Ramos, President of the National Confederation of Dominican Workers (Confederación Nacional de Trabajadores Dominicanos - CNTD), Patrick Numas, Secretary General of the General Independent Organization of Workers of Haiti (OGITH) and Nesly Julien, Haitian president of "Alas de Igualdad", signed a bilateral agreement to promote cooperation between the two countries, based on sustainable and participatory development.

The three organizations agreed to create the "Comisión Sindical Bilateral Dominico Haitiana de Cooperación y Desarrollo" whose objectives will be mainly to develop proposals and push for the achievement of comprehensive policies that promote bilateral or binational relationships conducive to development. The Commission wants to be a space for discussion, dialogue and research to improve relations between the two countries and is intended to perform various operations on an ongoing basis to achieve its objectives.

Jacobo Ramos, by signing the agreement explained that the Commission will defend an immigration agreement based on the fundamental conventions of the International Labor Organization (ILO); of best practices in the field and will put pressure so that the two Governments are developing agreements with a vision of sustainable and participatory development.

The Commission will also seek to channel resources and initiatives for the development of workers between the two countries and create a framework for infrastructure and social services in the Dominican-Haitian border, which will make the border area an attractive place and stimulating to live there.

This agreement includes to work in the perspective of a fair trade based on the national standards of both countries and subject to the resolution of conflicts in national courts or special courts composed of judges of the two nations of the island.

This agreement is for an indefinite period, either party may terminate it with a one-month notice while maintaining the commitments it has assumed under the agreement.
