Haiti - January 12, 2010 : President Martelly pay tribute to missing

Tuesday, January 12, 2016, the President Michel Martelly, accompanied among otehrs by the First Lady, Sophia Martelly and Prime Minister, Evans Paul, ok part in the ceremony commemorating the 6th anniversary of the devastating earthquake that hit the country January 12, 2010.

The Head of State laid a wreath at the monument erected in St Christophe, as a sign of tribute to the missing and recalled to the Haitian people its duty to remember and the need to continue to move forward while drawing lessons from the past.

"We are here today for the fifth time to remind us, to bring our respect to all those who have lost one of their own, but especially to think, for we remember that we were involved in what happened because we badly constructed, we were not well prepared, we have not put our people safe through building methods, we could have avoided this.

So it is a way today to say that we will do better, not only in reconstruction, also in our attitude, prioritizing the interests of Haiti over personal interests, it is not only a matter to have power only, but of what will be done, the plans [...] is it Haiti you see first ?

[...] I personally have not lost family, but we are a family in Haiti, we are a people [...] it is in this same union that we must build today, that the one must think of the other [...] is all of us Haitians, who must unite, Haitians here and abroad, to set the new Haiti that we want and from this, we will have a correct attitude vis-à-vis the plans we have to build Haiti that we want."
