Haiti - Elections : The electoral adviser Vijonet Déméro resigns

In a letter dated Friday, January 15, 2016 addressed to the President Michel Martelly, the electoral adviser Vijonet Déméro, Representative of the Protestant Federation of Haiti (FPH) and also Secretary General of the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP), has resigned.

"

[...] I regret to present my resignation within the Provisional Electoral Council for reasons beyond my control.

I will return to my first activities with the heart net and peace of soul of Christian, of Minister of the Gospel, of responsible citizen, who served his country with honor and dignity in a very polarized society, in a socio-political environment of intolerance, mistrust and defamation, whose my person was not spared.

Hoping that you will understand and accept my decision, I ask you, Excellency, to believe in the assurance of my patriotic and spiritual consideration.

May God guide you and bless the Haitian Nation! [...]"

Recall that the Adviser Déméro had been the subject of corruption charges by former Senator Desras. The resignation comes as the Ethics Committee of the FPH after investigation, confirmed that he was "not directly concerned by these allegations and no charges were brought against him" https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-16287-haiti-news-electoral-zapping.html

A resignation that closely follows that of the adviser Ricardo Augustin Representative of the Catholic Church, which was also forced to resign on January 7 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-16264-haiti-news-electoral-zapping.html

In one case as in the other, and despite the unproven facts, it appears clearly that the image of a CEP accused of all evil, projects a negative shadow over the religious sectors, who prefer to think first preserve their image in their parishes... https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-16079-haiti-news-electoral-zapping.html
