Demonstration for the rapid holding of the second round

The organizations close to the government, including among other PHTK, Repon Peyizan... have organized Thursday a demonstration in Port-au-Prince, attended by several thousand people, against the transition and for the rapid holding of the second round of elections, while criticizing the opposition whose they denounce the violence and the will to gain power outside election.

Statement by Martelly

"I do not agree that people who do not want an election take power without going to elections,"said Thursday the President Martelly during the inauguration of Wharf Jérémie to Cité Soleil stating that after February 7 if there is no agreement it will not leave the country in uncertainty and [implicitly] in a situation of void of power.

Latortue reacts

The senator Youri Latortue reacting to the statement of Martelly to emain in office [according to him] if no agreement is reached before February 7, said he was opposed to this because it is a constitutional obligation, he said discussions continue in order to reach a solution for the after 7 February.

Start of dialogue according Lavalas

Louis Gérald Gilles and Schiller Louidor, leaders of Fanmi Lavalas, announced the beginning of dialogue among different sectors of the democratic opposition in order to find a consensus for the benefit of the country after February 7, they stressed that the presence of Fanmi Lavalas to the discussion table with the G8 does not mean for now, an alliance with the G-8, but rather an agreement to fight against power.

Sit-in outside the US Embassy

The Bureau des Avocats Internationaux (BAI) and the MOLEGHAF Thursday conducted a sit-in outside the headquarters of the US Embassy in Tabarre against foreign interference in the country's internal affairs.

The Senate in search of a solution

"What we're trying to do now is to seek a solution to cover the dysfunction of the Executive power and to create conditions so that there is a sense of calm in the country to facilitate the elections," indicated Jocelerme Privert, President of the Senate.
