Monday in New York, the spokesperson of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon, speaking on Haiti declared "The Secretary-General welcomes the 14 February election by the National Assembly of Haiti of a Provisional President of the Republic. This election stems from the agreement signed on 6 February between Haitian stakeholders to preserve institutional continuity and further the electoral process.

Welcoming this crucial first step, the Secretary-General encourages all parties to work together towards the implementation of the roadmap contained in the agreement to ensure the return to constitutional normality.
