Haiti - FLASH : 3 U.S. senators ask the Department of State to take sanctions

While recent statements by the U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry on Haitian leaders and the limited patience of the international community https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-17187-haiti-news-zapping-politics.html continue to make waves in Haiti, we have learned that in a letter addressed to John Kerry, dated April 15, the U.S. Secretary of State, the U.S. Senators David A. Perdue, Marco Rubio and Johnny Isakson declared what follows :

We urge the Department of State to use every tool to ensure that Haitian authorities conducts elections by the agreed upon deadline. This would requiere working closely with Interim President Privert and the new CEP to keep the election scheduled on track and to avoid any pretext for another postponement.

We also ask the Department to identify and punish the 'spoilers' who routinely undermine and disrupt the electoral process for thir own interests. This would include those who take to the street to engage in violence and those who urge or pay others to do so. For example, those who bankroll chaos, promote violence and undermine Haiti's stability should not be able to travel freely to the United Statres to escape the mess they create back home.

We are confident you share with us the desire to see that the Haitian people have a government of their choosing and that is responsive to their needs, so that the country can enjoj the stability and prosperity the people deserve [...]"
