Haiti - Economy : Always rising, inflation is approaching 15%

During the month of March 2016 the General Index Consumer Price (base 100 in August 2004) amounts to 260.9 against 258.7 in February 2016, showing a monthly growth of 0.9%, which represents a slowdown from the monthly change of 1.3% recorded last month. By cons, inflation continues to rise year on year to 14.8% against 14.4% in February 2016.

The functions that have contributed most to this monthly increase of 0.9% are mainly: "Food, drinks and tobacco" (+ 0.9%), "Clothing, Textiles and Footwear" (+ 1.4%), "Housing Rent, Energy and water '(+ 0.6%) and "Planning and Housing Maintenance" (+ 0.5%).

The progress of the function "Food, drinks and tobacco" which represents over 50% of the household budget comes from other grain corn prices (+ 1.5%), ground corn (+ 1.4%), wheat flour (+ 1.7%), flakes horn (+ 2.0%), coconut (+ 1.7%), lawyer (+ 1.0%), bananas (+ 2.0%), giraumont (+ 1.6%), the marker (+ 2.2%), eggplant (+ 2.3%), cabbage (+ 1.8%), carrots (+ 2.0%), tomatoes (+ 1.1%), yam (+ 1.5%), cassava (+ 1.9%), potatoes (+ 1.4%), apple earth (+ 2.4%), orange (+ 2.5%), chadèque (+ 2.0%), lemon (+ 2.1%), raw sugar (+ 3.6%), refined sugar (+ 1.5%), cocoa powder (+1.9 %) and other alcoholic beverages (+ 1.2%).

The increase in the "Clothing, Textiles and Footwear" function is mainly due to the increase in products such as tissues (+ 1.8%), shirts (+ 0.7%), the trousers for men (+ 1.3%), the dress (+ 0.7%) and tennis shoes (+ 3.0%) and shoes (+ 2.4%).

The increase in the index "Rent Housing, Energy and Water" is mainly due to changes in housing rent (+ 2.8%) and electricity (+ 0.7%).

Finally, the increase observed at the "Development and Housing Maintenance" function is mainly due to living room furniture (+ 0.9%), dining room (+ 2.2%), bed (+ 1.6%), mattresses (+2.4 %),. refrigerator (+ 1.0%) and wages of domestic workers (+ 1.1%).

Other goods and services : 20.8%
