Haiti - Economy : ADIH scandalized by the blockage of the textile sector

In a note, the Association of Industries of Haiti (ADIH) said it was scandalized by the acts perpetrated during the day of May 11 in textile factories located on the Airport Road and the Metropolitan Industrial Park of the SONAPI https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-17424-haiti-economy-thousands-of-textile-workers-took-to-the-streets.html

"Indeed, recognized individuals, under the pretext to manifest their disagreement [on minimum wage] and after making threats, entered without authorization, within different factories of the clothing industry and forced the workers to leave their jobs, forcing the plants to close their doors. This led subsequently the closure of other plants not wanting to suffer the same fate, results in the loss for the workers, of a workday."

ADIH while respecting the right of everyone to manifest wonders if "the country can afford the luxury of losing over 40,000 jobs ?" adding that "The minimum wage should not be used workhorse for groups who have no alternative to offer in a moribund socio-economic situation."

The ADIH expresses its serious concern face these acts it describes as "terrorists" and "barbarians" and says "support any legal action to be taken against these criminals" recalling that ADIH made reasonable proposals to the Superior Council of Salaries (CSS) that take strictly into account the impact of inflation during the recent years.

The Association requests that the government take appropriate security measures, interpellates those responsible for the violence and thus launches a clear message to multiple national and international investors interested in investing in the country.
