Haiti - Diaspora : Second arson in a Haitian radio of Montreal

In the night from Saturday to Sunday, Haitian Radio CPAM 1610 AM, property of the awyer Jean Ernest Pierre has suffered for the second time of a fire of criminal origin towards 3 a.m.

According to the spokesman of the Police Department of the City of Montreal (SPVM) "An object was launched through the glass door and a strong odor of flammable product was detected on site, possibly gasoline."

Unlike the first arson in July 2012, which had caused considerable damage to the radio station, this time the damage appears more limited thanks to the rapid intervention of firefighters. No suspects or witnesses were heard and the investigation was transferred to the arson section of the SPVM to locate the incendiary and discover the cause of this fire.

Recall that in 2012, the director and owner of the station had received several telephone threats after the return to Haiti of former dictator Jean-Claude Duvalier "About a year, after the return of Jean-Claude Duvalier, we had taken position by saying that he should be tried. But he had supposed 'fans' who made threatening phone calls, in reole to set fire to the radio station."

The programming of CPAM 1610 AM, targets three cultural groups: Haitian (50%), Latin America (35%) and Africans with French as their first or second language (15%).
