The hurricane Matthew moves away from Haiti, and is located 215km northwest of Turtle Island, 70km north of Cuba, but today isexpected according to the National Meteorological Centre (CNM) "continues moderate rain with some wind gusts back the Hurricane Matthew.

Rain conditions and of gusts of wind are still evident. Therefore, the risk of flooding accompanied by mudslides and cases of coastal flooding are possible across the country with a higher intensity for the coastal regions of Grande Anse, Nippes, Artibonite and North-west."

Recall that the SPGRD together with the CNM, the SEMANAH the OFNAC and AAN prohibits all cabotage operations in coastal areas of country in particular the South coast and the Gulf of Gonâve as well as the airline operations from and to Haiti until further notice.

Time for assessment

"Tomorrow morning [Wednesday] as soon as weather permits it and the roads are re-opened the Government, ministers, the Prime Minister, the President, everyone in the State will travel around all the places in the country that are disaster to assess the damage, to provide answers than the circumstances require," declared President de facto Jocelerme Privert.

The Minister of the Interior said that President Privert planned [if weather permitting]to fly over Wednesday by helicopter, the affected areas and to meet on place local authorities in order to assess the situation.

The authorities have drawn up a provisional toll of 5 dead, one missing and extensive damage, François Joseph Annick, the Minister of the Interior said that the first reported casualties totaled 5 dead people (2 in the west and 3 in the South) and one missing person and a dozen injured.

Also there were 14.530 people who have been displaced, 2,703 families are affected and 1,885 houses are flooded.

François Joseph Annick reiterated the call of the Government to be cautious and that the population observes the safety instructions.

Also he encourages national and international solidarity and asks international organizations to coordinate interventions with government.
