Friday the Pentagon ordered the military transport ship USS Mesa Verde to participate in the relief operations in Haiti following the passage of Hurricane Matthew. The Mesa Verde carries 300 Marines soldiers specialized in medical emergency assistance and reconstruction and has three heavy transport helicopter CH-53 Super Stallion and landing craft.

Recall that last Wednesday the USS Mesa Verde left Norfolk in Virginia and was waiting for a deployment order.
