Haiti - Humanitarian : The Dominican Republic will help Haiti

Monday morning at the National Palace in Santo Domingo, President Danilo Medina accompanied by Jose Ramon Peralta, Administrative Minister of the Presidency, held an important meeting with, among others, Miguel Vargas ministers (Foreign Affairs), Gonzalo Castillo (Public Works), Angel Estevez (Agriculture) and the Director of Economic restaurants, Nicolas Calderon, the Director of Social Plan, Iris Guaba and the director of the National housing Institute, Mayobanex Escotto.

After having evaluated the request for assistance made on Sunday by the Government of Haiti to the Dominican Government https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-18882-haiti-flash-visit-of-danilo-medina-in-haiti.html , President Danilo Medina decided to send including : fresh and processed food, mattresses, building materials, heavy equipment to repair damaged infrastructure (roads, bridges...) drugs, vaccines against rabies, chlorination systems for water purification...

Furthermore he will allow the three hospitals under construction in the border area to provide medical care to prevent the spread of disease, including cholera.

After the meeting Jose Ramon Peralta during a press conference declared "The support of the Dominican Republic to Haiti is very large. We ask for the solidarity of all Dominicans who can contribute. It is important to go help Haiti and stop epidemics," adding that border controls are maintained, while it is reported an upsurge Haitians trying to enter illegally in Dominican territory.

Peralta will travel to Jimani Wednesday to oversee the beginning of the delivery of aid to Port-au-Prince. The Dominican army will ensure coordination in neighboring territory, shipments both on land and on sea.
