Haiti - Elections : Towards the rehabilitation of electoral spaces
Monday at the National Palace, the de facto President Jocelerme Privert held a working session with Romain Bastien, the Minister of Finance, Jacques Evelt Eveillard, the Minister of Public Works and Uder Antoine, the Executive director of Provisional Electoral Council (CEP), around the state of electoral spaces (voting centres and polling stations) as well as materials available for their rehabilitation.
The meeting was attended, in particular, by the representatives of the National Equipment Center (CNE), the Office of Monetization of Development Aid Programs (BMPAD), the Road Maintenance Fund (FER) and the National Directorate of Water Supply and Sanitation (DINEPA).
The major damage caused by the passage of Hurricane Matthew have a direct impact on several structures planned for the realization of the next elections. Also, the balance of Voting Centres and Polling Stations damaged or destroyed is necessary also also that of the resources available within government for their rehabilitation.
According to available information, the Voting Centres and Polling Stations could be used on November 20 in most cases, by installing tarpaulins or some work to install doors or build a wall. In some cases, it will be necessary to clear the space and install tents for the next election.
