Haiti - NOTICE : The CEP advance the beginning of the electoral campaign

Léopold Berlanger, President of Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) advises that "in its desire to motivate voters, after Hurricane Matthew, the Council decided to open the electoral campaign earlier than the scheduled date in the electoral calendar revised. In accordance with Articles 114 and 114.1 of the Electoral Decree of 2 March 2015 the electoral campaign period is from 3 to 18 November 2016,

instead of November 7 to 18 initially planned https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-18955-haiti-flash-important-dates-of-the-new-electoral-calendar-revised.html for partial legislative, elections-third of the Senate and the presidential of 20 November 2016. The campaign period ends on November 18 at midnight.

The Council took the opportunity to remind the leaders of parties, political groupings in general, and to candidates in particular, the provisions of sections 114 to 124 of Chapter VIII of the Decree dealing with the electoral campaign.

The Council strongly encourages the parties, political groups and candidates to respect scrupulously the provisions of Article 116 of the Electoral Decree which reads as follows "During the election process, candidates and their supporters must observe a correct attitude. They must refrain from any incitement to violence and any act leading to jeopardize the life and property of the population subject to penalties under the Penal Code. The Government Commissioner or Judge of Peace, assisted by agents of the National Police of Haiti (PNH), regularly seized by the CEP, prosecutes."
