Haiti - Elections : The «Core Group» welcomes the ongoing efforts

Sandra Honoré, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations and the other members of the Core Group (the Ambassadors of Brazil, Canada, France, Spain, the United States of America, the European Union and the Special Representative of the Organization of American States), express support for ongoing efforts by the national authorities to prepare for the 20 November vote.

"The members of the 'Core Group' encourage the Provisional Electoral Council and the Government to continue their work to create the technical, political and security conditions necessary for the conduct of transparent, fair, inclusive and credible elections in a climate of serenity throughout the country with particular attention to the departments most affected by Hurricane Matthew.

They further takes note of the re-opening of the electoral campaign and encourages all stakeholders to participate constructively in the electoral process, abiding by the electoral law, refraining from violence and using the established legal channels to resolve all disputes.

The 'Core Group' reiterates its solidarity with the people of Haiti during these challenging times and welcomes the resolve demonstrated by the Haitian political actors to conclude the electoral cycle and thereby enable the return to full Constitutional order."
