Haiti - Elections : Michaëlle Jean calls on all actors to favor legal channels

Michaëlle Jean, Secretary General of la Francophonie, welcomes the publication of the electoral results of the first round of the presidential election. "I note the publication of the provisional electoral results https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-19370-haiti-flash-preliminary-results-1st-round-elections-20-november-2016.html of the presidential election, published by the Provisional Electoral Council, the only body empowered to do so. Pending publication of the final results scheduled for 29 December, I call on all actors to privilege in all circumstances the legal channels to assert their rights," she said.

The Secretary-General, who has sent a mission of information and contacts in Haiti on the occasion of the elections of 20 November 2016, welcomes their calm progress and urges the Haitian stakeholders to do their utmost to maintain this dynamic of stabilization of the institutions.

The Secretary-General reiterates the availability of the International Organization of La Francophonie (IOF), in collaboration with other international partners, to support Haitian political authorities and actors in order to help calm political life and strengthen the democratic institutions.
