In a television interview on the Dominican channel TeleMicro, the former Senator of North-East, Henry Rudolph Boulos has estimated to more than one million the number of Haitian nationals that live in the Dominican Republic, working in agriculture, construction, trade and professional sectors of the middle class.

Responding to questions from the animators Johnny Vásquez and Laura Castellanos, about the elections, the former senator said that Haitian society seeking help from the International to ensure more transparency in the second round of elections after fraud and irregularities of the the first round. In summary, he said that people did not trust the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP), the institution responsible for organizing elections, and that the post-election violence, were caused by the frustration of the population, who did not see in the preliminary results, the candidates they favored.

About the slow pace of reconstruction, he explained that lack of confidence of the international community, in the Haitian authorities, was responsible for the non release of funds.

On the social plan, the former Senator, said that Haiti does not have a policy, a leadership and effective institutions to address the situation, noting that more than 1.5 million people still lived under tents or makeshift shelters in Haiti, 11 months after the earthquake of January 12.

About the security, he indicated that the presence of the UN Mission for Stabilization in Haiti (Minustah) is essential, as long the country will not have a national plan to ensure the safety of citizens and of its territory, noting however, that in his view, the insecurity was higher in Dominican Republic than in Haiti.
