In the first eleven months of 2016, the French Office for the Protection of Refugees and Stateless Persons (OFPRA) in charge of implementing the Geneva Convention of 28 July 1951 on the Status of Refugees and the New York in 1954, received 77,662 asylum applications, including 4,900 files from Haitians, behind the Sudanese (5,140), Afghans (5,466), Syrians (5,520) and Albanians (5,700).

However, although the 5th country in number of applications, out of the 4,900 Haitian applications for asylum in France, only 5% have been granted asylum, while the rate of applications has reached 33% for Sudanese, 80% for Afghans, 97% for Syrians and 16% for Albanians.
