Haiti - FLASH : Senator Guy Philippe extradited to the USA

Recall that Thursday, shortly before 4:00 in the afternoon, elected Senator Guy Philippe (Grande Anse) was arrested by members of the Office for the Fight against Drug Trafficking (BLTS), while leaving the radio Scoop FM while taking a crowd bath in the middle of sympathizer before rejoining his vehicle https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-19720-haiti-flash-arrest-of-senator-guy-philippe.html

Subsequently, he was taken to the Central Directorate of the Judicial Police (DCPJ) in the early evening where was deployed a massive security device. Note that he has been arrested under an international arrest warrant issued against him for several years for his alleged involvement in illicit drug trafficking.

In the evening, Guy Philippe was taken to Toussaint Louverture Airport where, surrounded by armed agents from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), boarded handcuffed a non-commercial white plane N5888k, to be extradited to Florida in the United States to face the charges brought against him.

Me Mario Delcy, Guy Philippe's lawyer confirmed that the latter was extradited by agents of the DEA last night to the United States and called on parliamentarians to mobilize against this arrest.

It should be noted that Senator Guy Philippe was arrested while he did not yet have all the immunities conferred on him by his function, Article 114 of the Constitution stipulates that "Members of the Legislative Body are inviolable from the day of taking the oath until the expiry of their term of office, subject to the provisions of Article 115."

No Haitian authority has made an official statement on this arrest and on the extradition of Guy Philippe. Camille Junior Edouard, the Minister of Justice remains until now silent as the Presidency and the American Embassy. The Senators should launch a convocation against the Minister of Justice in the coming hours for more explanations. For the moment, the exact charges against Guy Philippe are unknown.

At the announcement of the arrest of Guy Philippe, in the departments of the South and Grand'Anse, protesters went down the streets to demand his release. We have reports that flaming tire barricades were erected on roads in these two departments, also police stations also have been victims of attacks of unidentified individuals without more details or exact balance on the very tense situation.

Jean Henry Céant "Renmen Ayiti", said he was revolted by this arrest and pointed finger at the de facto President Privert as one of the main artisans of this arrest.
