Haiti - FLASH : RD back every day in the North, nearly 1,500 illegal Haitians

Since the beginning of the year the Dominican Republic is facing a real rush of Haitians trying to enter illegally on the Dominican territory.

General Sugar Frugis Martínez, Director of CESFRONT (Cuerpo Especializado en Seguridad Fronteriza Terrestre) of the border area of Dajabón said that since the beginning of the new year, about 1,500 Haitians have been arrested each day trying to cross illegally the border with the Dominican Republic to Dajabón.

He pointed out that the arrests were carried out in coordination with the immigration inspectors and pointed out that a large number of Haitians sent back to their country were provided with false identity documents or false temporary migration regularization cards, easily discovered particularly with computer resources.

Yesterday Saturday was the worst day, a large crowd of Haitians tried to forcibly enter the Dominican territory forcing members of the CESFRONT to temporarily close the border gate waiting for reinforcements from other Dominican agencies, that have allowed to regain control of the situation and reopen the border.

In addition, General Sugar Frugis Martínez said that surveillance had been reinforced both at the border and at the places usually used by traffickers (Haitians and Dominicans) of migrants from Haiti.
