Haiti - Elections : D-8, Security strengthening

As part of the measures to ensure the security and smooth running of the elections on January 29, Inspector General Jean Saint-Fleur, responsible for election security in the National Police of Haiti (PNH) informed that "an additional 2,000 to 3,000 police officers will be deployed in the departments," pointing out, "There will be PNH patrols assisted by UNPol, FPU [Specialized Police Force] and Minustah, throughout the territory."

PNH has also announced that there will be, as on 20 November 2016 https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-19273-haiti-elections-attention-you-are-filmed.html a deployment of drones to monitor the elections of 29 January especially in difficult access areas.

Also note that as of Friday, January 27, all street protests will be banned in Haiti and that from starting Saturday, January 28, firearms licenses will be revoked throughout the national territory.
