Haiti - Social : FLGL mission to boost fisheries economy in Anse du Clerc

Friday, a joint mission of the Louis G. Lamothe Foundation (FLGL) and the organization "We Are The Oceans" (WATO), composed amon others of the former Prime Minister Laurent Lamothe, Rose Anne Auguste, Daisy Kendrick and Ower Jude, went to Anse du Clerc (Abricots) in the department of Grand'Anse in order to promote the revival of the fishery economy in this locality following the passage of Hurricane Matthew.

The delegation was welcomed by Ricardo Jean Louis, the Mayor of the Abricots, his deputy Séraphin Brunache, the President of the Board of Communal Section (CASEC), Pasteur Francky Jeune and the population of Anse du Clerc.

Following of evaluation visits and of gathering of needs from fishermen in October https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-19077-icihaiti-cholera-laurent-lamothe-in-the-department-of-grand-anse.html and November 2016, the FLGL mobilized partners to build a sustainable future for the revival of the fishing economy in Anse du Clerc.

WATO, an organization based in England, a privileged partner of the FLGL, has decided to accompany more than 80 fishermen and 18 seafood merchants in Anse du Clerc.

The objective of this mission was to initiate a partnership between fishermen, WATO and the FLGL on the one hand, and to distribute about one hundred coolers to fishermen and merchants for the conservation of seafood. In addition, the FLGL took advantage of this mission to distribute 120 lamps, courtesy of Élizabeth Borno, to the women's associations of Anse du Clerc.

The Fondation Dr Louis G. Lamothe believes that a follow-up accompaniment of the Anse du Clerc fishermen is essential to help them climb up the slope after the passage of Matthew and the Foundation intends to remain with them, throughout this process of recapitalization for the benefit of the local economy.
