Wednesday, Prime Minister Jacques Guy Lafontant, in the presence of numerous personalities, including: Jules Cantave, President of the Court of Cassation, Inspector Michel-Ange Gédéon, Director General of the Haitian National Police, Me Sonel Jn. François and Constant Lionel Bourgouin, Director General of the Central Financial Intelligence Unit (UCREF) and General Director of the Anti-Corruption Unit (ULCC), proceeded to the installation of Me Heidi Fortuné as New Minister of Justice and Public Security.

In his speech, the Head of Government said he rely on the new minister to take concrete actions to strengthen justice.

In his words of circumstance, after the usual thanks, the new Minister Fortuné promised to fight against prolonged pretrial detention and said relaying on the cooperation of all employees in order to fulfill his mission.

Me Heidi Fortuné, who has had a long career as a Magistrate in the judicial system in the North, notably as an investigating judge at the Court of First Instance in Cap-Haïtien and a member of the Presidential Commission on Extended Pre-Trial Detention in 2016, replaces to this post Me Camille Junior Edouard Minister, installed under the Government Privert-Jean-Charles.
