Haiti - Martinique : Donation of nearly 20,000 books

The Dumont d'Urville, light transport vessel of the Armed Forces in the Antilles, stopped in Port-au-Prince on Monday 3 and Tuesday 4 April to deliver 44 cubic meters of books and textbooks to Haitian schools and libraries.

Organized by the Académie de Martinique under a co-operation agreement with the Ministry of National Education (MENFP) in Haiti, a first collection enabled the collection of 7,200 textbooks of French and Mathematics for the fundamental and the secondary. 50% of these works will be distributed to 224 public schools and the remainder to 167 partner institutions of the Alexandre Dumas French Lycée.

All of these books were selected on the basis of specific criteria developed in collaboration with the MENFP. At the same time, the French Embassy worked on the production of teaching materials to facilitate the use of textbooks by teachers.

In addition, thanks to the support of the Association Enfants Soleils d'Avenir (ESA-Caribbean) and the Martinique Red Cross, a second collect allowed to gather more than 10,000 non-scholastic works, which will be distributed in particular to the municipal libraries of Cap Haitien, Les Cayes, Gonaïves, of Jacmel and Jérémie. he French Alliances of these cities will also benefit from a part of this donation.

On site, Monday morning when unloading, Ambassador of France accredited to Haiti, Elisabeth Beton Delègue, welcomed the solidarity operation "that responds to a frequent request of the Embassy of partners and opens the way for new series of supplies to better meet the needs of schools and libraries in the country."

She handed over these works to Louis Mary Cador, the Director General of the MENFP, representing the Minister Cadet.
