Friday evening, the presidential motorcade, which was returning from the Artibonite department as part of preparations for the launch of the caravan of change scheduled for May 1, got stuck at the commune of Arcahaie, by angry demonstrators protesting against the decision of former President Martelly, there are now 2 years https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-14858-haiti-politic-5-new-communes-in-haiti.html , to divide the commune of Arcahaie in two. The presidential motorcade then passed through the barricades and wiped stone jets from unidentified individuals. Witnesses reported exchanges of fire between the security forces or the security agents of the motorcade and unknown (information not officially confirmed by the police so far).

However, in a statement, the Presidency spoke of an "ambush made against the presidential motorcade" and does not hesitate to speak of a terrorist act "The words are not strong enough to say all the ignominy of these terrorist acts [...] These acts against the life of the President of the Republic committed by unidentified individuals, are a serious threat against public peace and State of safety. They will be subjet of a thorough and rigorous investigation by the competent authorities with a view to finding their perpetrators and bringing them before the judicial authorities appointed for that purpose."

President Moïse renews to the archeloise population all his commitment to find a definitive and satisfactory solution to this crisis which has to too long lasted and invites this population not to yield "to the extremists".

The Office of the Presidency "congratulates the specialized units of the National Police of Haiti in charge of the security of the Head of State for their promptness and professionalism and reminds everyone that the establishment of a democratic society can only be achieved through the principles enacted by the law [...]"

However, some people present in the motorcade disagree with the terms of the Presidency's statment which refers to "an ambush" and "acts against the life of the President of the Republic" stressing that it was only one of the frequent demonstrations of angry residents of this zone https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-20303-haiti-flash-violence-to-arcahaie-several-victims-many-damages.html , asituation that prevailed well before the arrival of the presidential motorcade , which found itself unfortunately at the heart of the violence.
