Haiti - Social : A great man of Haitian culture passed away 11/04/2017 09:25:56
It is with great regret and emotion that the Minister of Culture, Limond Toussaint announces the sad news of the death on Sunday morning of Michelet Divers, Departmental Director of the South-East since 2007, following a disease courageously supported. Michelet Divers, born in Jacmel in 1954, studied law in Gonaïves and political journalism (by correspondence). A poet, a professor and a great enthusiast of Haitian history and culture, he obtained a Master's degree in history, memory and patrimony from the State University of Haiti before receiving a scholarship to the Université Laval in Quebec. Minister Toussaint stressed "Michelet Divers was a notorious figure of the metropolis of the South-East for having been Inspector at the service of Immigration and Emigration, President of Alliance Française de Jacmel, Director of Pinchinat Lycée, Teacher at the Faculty of Law of Jacmel, Comedian of the theater group 'Les acolytes', Journalist-reporter of different media, football player to the teams 'Sans problème' and 'Ajax', and photographer. Known for his academic initiatives and his interest in the Carnival of Jacmel, the Ministry of Culture named him on 15 January, 'Personality of the Jacmel Carnival'. With the departure of our Departmental Director for the Eternal, it is an encyclopedia of Haitian culture that would disappear if he had not bequeathed to us a remarkable repertoire of literary works. The exemplary of the professional and academic background of Michelet let his collaborators the memory of a man honest, humble and devoted to the service of his country. The Ministry of Culture and Communication bows to his remains, shares the pain of his relatives in these difficult times and asks them to accept his sincere condolences." HL/ S/ HaitiLibre
