On Saturday, 15 April 2017, will end the participation in the UN Mission (Minustah), of 250 Uruguayan peacekeepers still stationed in Haiti. It should be recalled that the Uruguayan force was 605 soldiers in 2015, in Haiti since 2004.

UN staff coordinate with the soldiers transport from the Morne Casse base to Port-au-Prince, and from there their return to Uruguay on charter flights.

In addition, the logistics of repatriation of military and implementation equipment, which will be transported by sea, is being set up in Haiti has informed the Ministry of National Defense of Uruguay. While most of the Uruguayan soldiers will return to their homes, about forty soldiers will remain in Haiti for some time to ensure the repatriation of the equipment.

Jorge Menéndez, the Minister of National Defense of Uruguay, said that certain materials and equipment would be handed over to the Haitian authorities, citing, for example, the water treatment unit, which supplied drinking water to the Uruguayan base and part of the local population.
