Haiti - FLASH : Bus accident in the South West at least 18 victims
Thursday at midday, a bus identified "Lionel Express" from Chardonnières (Southwest) heading to Les Cayes overturned on a bend near Carrefour-Joute, killing two passengers and injuring 16 others (provisional balance sheet).
Residents assisted by rescue workers and agents of the Haitian National Police (PNH) have released some of the injured people who have been trapped in the bus. The injured were transported to the Les Cayes General Hospital by the National Ambulance Center (CAN) and PNH vehicles.
Inspector Jean Guito Calas, Head of Traffic Department of the Southern Department, points to the negligence of the driver and the poor condition of the vehicle. A mechanical or brake problem could be the cause of this accident, although this can not be confirmed at the moment, since the driver had fled.
