Haiti - Reconstruction : Bill Clinton, angered by the slowness 12/01/2011 10:40:32
Former U.S. President Bill Clinton, in charge of coordinating international assistance, visited Haiti Wednesday to attend ceremonies of the first anniversary of the earthquake. Speaking to the press he regretted the slow pace of reconstruction "No one is more angered than me that we have not done more," said Clinton, recognizing the difference between the amounts pledged by the international community and the money actually spent on reconstruction projects. Bill Clinton, however, assured that the pace of reconstruction had accelerated "We goes infinitely faster for four months and you can see the activity that reigns in the streets" The former president visited a site where the earthmoving equipment and one crusher, works to transforms the rubble, in gravel that can then be reused in construction. He was pleased with the recycling of the debris which avoids encumbering the roads by many trucks "We can say to the donors: here is a reconstruction model that works [...] Whatever the amount of money you give us, we can buy more of these equipments". However, Julie Schindall, an official of the humanitarian organization Oxfam, said that such equipment was stranded nearly 9 months by the Haitian customs while hoping that the former President can move faster the reconstruction.
