The objective of this tour was to better understand the problems and to take advantage of them to anticipate the preparation of the hurricane season which begins next month, taking into account the fragility of the environment in the South, especially in the Nippes, already seriously affected by Hurricane Matthew and the rains of Spring 2017.

In view of the findings made on the ground, the Minister asked the other ministries concerned, in particular Public Works and Agriculture, to undertake major works to ensure, inter alia, the clearing of various rivers and the treatment of the majority of water evacuations, mostly clogged for lack of maintenance for several years.

In addition, Minister held a meeting around the preparation of the hurricane season, with the main authorities, operators and notables of the Nippes Department. He committed to strengthening the technical and operational capacities of the Directorate of Civil Protection (DPC) for better support to the population.

Among others dispositions, the Ministry of the Interior will carry out, in the very short term, the replenishment of the depots of the Emergency Operations Centers at the central and departmental levels, in order to anticipate possible emergency responses to the population...
