Haiti - Politics : Nearly 32,000 children live in children's homes

As part of the reform of the care of Haitian children, 30 protection agents from the Institute of Social Welfare and Research (IBESR) began work on the ground, the re-evaluation of the functioning of the children's homes (Center or foster home) in Haiti, where nearly 32,000 (abandoned) children live. This work is supported financially and technically by the French Embassy, LUMOS, Unicef, World Vision in Haiti and Rapha House.

This work, which will last 2 months, aims to evaluate the operation of 453 establishments through the 20 communes of the department of the West (740 centers in total at the national level). This reassessment will wallow to update the information from the IBESR, to identify the Centers that need to be closed, those that need to be refurbished and those that are compliant and licensed.

"This reassessment of children's homes is a prelude to the process of deinstitutionalization of children in Haiti. Without the data, we can not give good results," said Diem Pierre, Assistant Director General of the IBESR.

For her part, Arielle Jeanty Villedrouin, the Director General of the IBESR (French Legion of Honor https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-20965-haiti-france-presentation-of-the-legion-of-honor-to-arielle-jeanty-villedrouin.html ), abounds in the same direction and is convinced that "there is no better place for the development and vitality of the child as his family."
