Haiti - Economy : Finance Minister defends his next budget in Parliament

Friday in the Chamber of Deputies, Jude Alix Patrick Salomon, Minister of Economy and Finance (MEF) accompanied by his Director General Hérold Étienne and Jean Michel Silin, Director General of the Budget, Aviol Fleurant the Minister of Planning, Miradin Morlan, the General Director of the Directorate General of Taxes (DGI) and Fresnel Jean-Baptiste the Director General of the General Administration of Customs (AGD) ; defended the growth rate of 3.9% https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-21434-haiti-news-zapping.html , assumption on which is based on the revenue forecast for the next budget (2017-2018) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-21395-haiti-flash-tabling-in-parliament-of-the-draft-budget-2017-2018.html [Contrary to an estimated growth of only 1.5% by the Haitian Association of Economists and 1.7% by the World Bank], confident he explained "For this new budget we expect a growth rate of 3.9%. We have chosen to develop wealth across regions and rural areas. This strategy aims to combat migration. This creation of wealth requires the implementation of school, health and environmental infrastructures in rural areas. The budget also aims to foster academic development and the enhancement of Haitian cultural heritage.

This budget chooses to take a look at the supervision of young people through job creation poles so that the country leaves the welfare state it is necessary to reorganize and to strengthen all the structures of collection of the taxes and other rights.

Increasing wealth in rural areas must necessarily go through agriculture. This element is a booster for a better distribution of wealth in the country. The interest of such an action is to provoke an inverse exodus, where young professionals could leave in the region to work and stop the influx of peasants in the cities. The idea is also to divide the State's resources into various development sectors.

Thus, negotiations are underway with several partners to achieve greater efficiency and more tangible results [...]

According to the Ministry of Finance, at the end of this meeting, the deputies would have been satisfied, informing that a new meeting between the Executive and Parliament around the budget was planned for next Monday (July 24, 2017).
