Haiti - DR : 4 Haitians killed in a Dominican prison

Thursday 4 Haitian prisoners were killed in the overcrowded penitentiary of Victoria, known as the most dangerous of Santo Domingo, where are jailed more than 8,000 inmates.

According to a statement, the Office of the Prosecutor General confirms that the 4 deceased prisoners are of Haitian nationality. The victims were identified as Bruner Ferdinan (preventive detention for robbery), Dieumanece Jean and Luis Pie (preventive detention for theft) and Yefri Seis (10 years for rape).

The Public Prosecutor reported that about ten detainees had assaulted and killed the four Haitians in the prison during a clash. According to preliminary information, it appears that the attackers were trying to make say to Bruner Ferdinan, one of the Haitians killed with three of his compatriots, the place where he had concealed several hundred thousand pesos that he would have robbed in the residence of two Chinese citizens in Santo Domingo, a booty whose Police had recovered only about 700,000 pesos out of the 1.3 million stolen.

The Attorney General said that during the incident, several attackers were also injured slightly and supported by the prison infirmary. He confirms that the alleged perpetrators of the incident have all been identified and that he will request the imposition of severe coercive measures against these detainees.
