Haiti - Agriculture : Tripartite cooperation in the coconut sector

The Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Rural Development (MARNDR), and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), inform that in the framework of Tripartite Cooperation, a team a Cuban Expert in Agroforestry, a representative of the Directorate of External Cooperation of the Ministry of Agriculture of Cuba, and a representative of the FAO Subregional Office in Panama, has carried out a mission in Haiti.

The main objective of this technical mission, assisted by the Ministry and the FAO, was to develop a Technical Cooperation Project on agroforestry, particularly in the coconut sector.

According to the strategy adopted, the project will go through an 18-month pilot phase, which will lead to a national agroforestry program. The commune of Saint Jean du Sud has been chosen for the pilot experiment.

At the end of the mission, a restitution session was held in the presence of Carmel André Béliard, Minister of Agriculture, Nathanael Hishamunda, FAO Representative in Haiti, and Cuban Ambassador Luis Castillo.
