Nicole Yolette Altidor, the Director General of the Ministry of the Environment and the engineer Claude Prepetit Director of the Bureau of Mines and Energy (BME) represented Haiti alongside 15 invited countries, to a workshop on methods of cooking that took place at the Vienna International Center in Austria.

This Workshop, organized under the aegis of the World Alliance of Clean Stoves (Canada) in collaboration with the United Nations Foundation and supported by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), was the opportunity to discuss the need to have access to clean cooking methods to protect the environment and the health of users and thus enhance women's work. To achieve these objectives, action plans and various sources of funding have been widely discussed and explored.

Particular emphasis was placed on strategies to address the supply and demand market for improved stoves, the use of clean fuels, the issue of climate change, the reduction of eye and respiratory tract due to smoke caused by the use of fireplaces and charcoal, and the reduction of deaths of direct users most exposed to smoke, especially women and babies.

In order to address the above-mentioned challenges, it was recommended that the Haitian government continue the discussion with international partners, including Canada through the World Alliance for Clean Stoves with a view to establishing a national program in Haiti to promote the market for improved stoves and clean fuels. The program will cover a period of 10 years and will address the supply and demand of these households, both in urban and rural areas, as well as the negative effects associated with the use of traditional households.
