Haiti - FLASH : Senator Kedlaire Augustin assaulted and threatened

In a letter addressed to the President of the Senate, Youri Latortue, the office of Senator of Northwest, Kedlaire Augustine (PHTK) informs that "last Friday, October 27, a group of individuals claiming anti-tèt kale, headed by journalist Eddy Jacson Alexis, former spokesperson of former de facto President Jocelerme Privert and former journalist on radio Kiskeya, assaulted the Senator and made serious threats. They began by launching unhealthy remarks against relatives of the power in place, before deciding to attack directly the car of the Senator, who had come to participate in the recording of the program 'Intérêt Public' at the invitation of the presenter Lilianne Pierre-Paul.

Visibly too violent, the 3 agents of the Brigade of Motorized Intervention (BIM), assigned to the security of the station, were insufficient to prevent them from performing their acts. It took the reinforcement of several other agents of the National Police of Haiti before controlling the situation.

Senator Augustin's office condemns with the utmost rigor these barbaric acts that are part of the opposition's desire to create a climate of political instability that is detrimental to the country's economic development and national sovereignty [...]"
