Haiti - Carnival 2018 : First working meeting in Port-au-Prince

Friday, the Communal Administration of Port-au-Prince organized a first round table on the preparations and the choice of the theme of the national carnival 2018, which will take place in the capital from Sunday 11 to Tuesday 13 February 2018.

On invitation of Mayor Ralph Youri Chevry to several sectors of the artistic and cultural world as well as the Ministries of Culture and Tourism, took part in this round table : Ralph Allen, Mario Benjamin, David Charlier, Jean-René Delsoin, Fred Hype, Haze Sylvester, Merline Joseph and Tamara Philippeaux. The Director General of the City Council, Anne-René Louis, that of the Roxane Ledan and External Cooperation, Alexa Louis and representatives of the diaspora.

At the end of the discussions, the participants agreed on the theme of the 2018 carnival "AYITI JAN L DWE YE" (Haiti as it should be). They also decided that the 2018 Carnival will be focused on the topics of recycling.

This round table was also the occasion to take a first step towards the restructuring of the carnival machine in order to give the creators time to work their works in accordance with the chosen theme.

Beyond the environmental aspect, the participants of the round table wished that through the Carnival 2018 the different kinds of creations are articulated around the 3 following axes :

  • Recycling for local development ;

  • Environmental Protection;

  • Improving the image of our country.

The Communal Administration of Port-au-Prince reiterated its determination to organize an inclusive and innovative carnival that would allow national development.
