"Lakay Vèt", is a young Haitian company that will use the anaerobic composting process to transform Haiti's biomass waste into rich, affordable resources that will return to the Haitian economy.

The plant will receive mixed municipal waste trucks that will be separated in organic matter (market waste etc...) and non-organic materials (metals, plastics etc...) Non-organic materials will be sorted, baled and used locally and sold on the international recycling market. The organic matter will be treated in an anaerobic composter, which will produce :

Biofertilizer for Haitian farmers as an ecological, local alternative to unaffordable synthetic fertilizers currently available;

Biogas can be used to produce electrical energy by micro-grids, as a green fuel for non-polluting vehicles and as a clean fuel for cooking.

Let's recall that the metropolitan area of Port-au-Prince produces more than 2,200 tons of mixed waste every day. In 2010, a study conducted on the composition of waste in Haiti revealed that between 65 and 75% of the waste consisted of organic matter, of which 7% was plastics and 3% was metals. This means that Haiti, like other Caribbean countries, has enormous bioenergetic potential. The goal of "Lakay Vèt" is to use the bioenergy potential of Haiti to transform the Haitian economy and promote a strong and sustainable Haiti.

The aerospace engineer, Sébastien Benoit was born in Port-au-Prince. After his studies in the United States, where he developed the knowledge and skills he needed, he returned to Haiti to create "Lakay Vèt", the first step of a long journey. Sébastien Benoit co-founder of the company with the mechanical engineer, McKinnley Workman, hopes to make this first installation a success and grow up to serve the various municipalities of Haiti "Biomass in Haiti has untapped resource potential unimaginable and I am proud to build a Haitian company that will work to solve waste, energy and agriculture problems in Haiti."
