Haiti - Social : Youth commemorated the Battle of Vertières

Friday 17, in the streets of Cap, dozens of young people took part in the parade of cheerleaders, fanfares and corps d'honneur, followed in the evening of the torchlight parade, during which the youngsters, candles in hand, are left the Gymnasium to go to the monument Vertières to be imbued with the light that guided our ancestors 214 years ago.

Saturday, the Ministry of Youth mobilized the technicians of its directorates and coordinations to commemorate with the young people the 214th anniversary of the Battle of Vertières. Minister Régine Lamur, accompanied by Mario Florvil, its Director General and members of her cabinet, increased the activities to sensitize young people around the spirit of Vertières.

In Grand-Pré, the Minister chaired the graduation ceremony of 50 young people trained in earthquake-resistant construction with the collaboration of "Build Change". While emphasizing the commitment of young people, she reminded them that they represent a unique strength and vitality that is destined to succeed unreservedly and to contribute, through their training, to improving the quality of life of the population.

In addition, Lamur participated in the Conference debate organized by the National Commission for Innovation and Socio-Professional Integration of Youth at the Regina Assumpta College, emphasizing in her speech three essential points: the plurality and diversity of the Haitian Nation; the Union which is our strength as a people and the spirit of Greatness which must guide our actions as descendants of the valiant Heroes of Vertières.

Sports competitions were organized in basketball and football to continue to encourage the practice of sports in schools pending the holding of school games.

Dozens of brigadiers have been deployed on the national road # 1 and Cap-Haïtien to facilitate traffic and assist road safety. Alongside Haitian National Police officers, they also offered their services to Vertières and the boulevard where the commemorative ceremonies took place. The Ministry, aware of the need for a return to a committed citizenship, intends to multiply the activities that will inculcate young people's civic and patriotic values.

The Minister of Youth, invited everyone to mobilize and act one for the benefit of the other "to aspire to the greatness that characterizes us as Nation", because according to her "We can do it, we must do it and we will do it not only to astonish the world once again, but also and especially to give hope to the Haitian Youth..."
