Haiti - NOTICE : Polyethylene and polystyrene of brigades will be deployed !

The Ministers of Environment, Pierre Simon Georges, Trade and Industry, Pierre Marie Du Meny, Economy and Finance, Jude Alix Patrick Salomon and Justice and Public Security, Heidi Fortuné, have yesterday in a statement, reiterated the ban on the sale of styrofoam products throughout the country. Steps will be taken to prevent it.

"Following the decree dated July 10, 2013, taken in Council of Ministers [the ministries mentioned above] remind everyone, particularly large importers and small traders, that it is strictly forbidden to import, to market and to use in any form whatsoever of sacs en polyéthylène et objets en polystyrène expansés (PSE, PS ou Styrofoam).

The persistent and abusive use of these products is a major environmental problem not only for Haiti but also for other countries in the region.

From the publication of this statement, of specialized brigades will be deployed throughout the country to ensure the strict application of the provisions of the decree and the prohibited products will be seized without any consideration, without prejudice to other sanctions provided by law."
