This project, based on a participative and multi-sectoral approach including the involvement of political authorities and local technical expertise, guarantees its ownership by beneficiaries and the development of a partnership between Southern communities and the Haitian public institutions in the environmental sector.

In his speech, Minister Georges underlined the importance of this project for the South Department, which will notably intervene in : risk management through institutional strengthening, preparation of local communities and a solid scientific base for monitoring and forecasting risks to alert the population in a timely manner; the long-term adaptability of the fisheries sector while reducing vulnerability to climate impacts; increasing the resilience of coastal ecosystems; improving the management of water resources and access to drinking water and improving access to sustainable energy.

BDC Vice President Monica La Bennett said, "The Caribbean Development Bank is proud to support a sister Nation that shares the same climate change challenges with other friendly countries in the Caribbean region. We are confident that the results of this project will be sustainable and bring lasting change to the life of the Ile-à-Vache community."
