Haiti - Politic : Moïse received the UN Under-Secretary-General

Wednesday at the National Palace, President Jovenel Moïse, accompanied by the Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Planning, Justice, Defense, the Secretary of State for Public Security, the Permanent Representative of Haiti to the United Nations, the Cabinet Director, and his diplomatic advisers, received in audience Jean-Pierre Lacroix, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN) for Peacekeeping Operations, who carried a message from the Secretary-General, António Guterres.

The audience was held in a very cordial atmosphere. Under-Secretary-General Lacroix informed the President of the Republic of the message of Secretary-General Guterres on the necessary normalization of relations between Haiti and the United Nations, following the respective recall, for consultation, of the Permanent Representative of Haiti to the United Nations, Ambassador Denis Régis https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-23681-haiti-politic-strong-reaction-of-the-chancellery-against-minujusth.html and of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General, Mrs. Susan D. Before leaving Haiti Deputy Secretary General Lacroix in a press statement said "[...] I reiterated to his Excellency President Moise the spirit of solidarity that guides the United Nations towards Haiti, founding member of the Organization. Minujusth and the United Nations country team are committed to supporting the Government's efforts and priorities [...] We have stressed the importance of working together to prepare for the transition from Minujusth to a form of cooperation other than peacekeeping operation, in accordance with Security Council resolutions.

[...] With regard to the fight against cholera, I reiterated the personal commitment of the United Nations Secretary-General in support of efforts to put an end to this scourge. To this end, the Secretary-General and his Special Envoy, Josette Sheeran, have mobilized private sector actors particularly engaged in finance, health and technology to support the Haitian government and people [...]"
