Haiti - Health : Faculties of medicine and nurses schools illegal

Monday in the context of Monday's press, Marie Greta Roy Clement, the Minister of Public Health said that to improve the quality of training of health professionals in the country, the Ministry intended to take corrective measures aimed, inter alia, the recognition of institutions specialized in medical training, supervision of state examinations, regulation of the practice of health professions in Haiti, scholarships and continuing education. Of measures to also meet the accreditation requirements of our medical schools internationally.

Regarding the training of health personnel, she said "[...] today, Haiti is facing a very different reality with the proliferation of medical schools, of medical technology and nurses [...] The legal framework governing medical education in Haiti dates from a time when there was only the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy (FMP); today, we need an appropriate update."

Revealing that of the 18 faculties of medicine in Haiti only 6 are allowed to operate and of the 174 schools of nursing currently identified in the country, only 83 have an operating license...

In addition, Minister Clément indicated that her Ministry was currently working on the revision of the law on the social service of graduating medical students.
