Haiti - FLASH : The torrential rains make their first victims

The Directorate of Civil Protection (DPC) informs us that the heavy rains that have fallen on several departments of the country, especially on the Central Plateau, on the night from May 2 to 3, have caused the death of a woman of 29 years old and a 9 year old girl, in the collapse of a wall of their house, in Mont-Carmel, a village in the commune of Mirebalais. The husband of the victim was admitted to the University Hospital of Mirebalais, following injuries in this tragedy.

According to the forecast of the Hydro-meteorological unit of Haiti (UHM), heavy rainfall is still expected on the country, especially on the South-East, West and Artibonite. In addition, the departments of North West, North, Center, Nippes, South and Grand Anse, are likely to be flooded.

The UHM which had issued a flood, landslide notice on May 2nd https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-24273-haiti-flash-weather-threat-of-floods-and-landslides.html forecast the the persistence and intensification of the rains this Friday, May 4 especially on the Southeast, West and Artibonite. In addition, the departments of North West, North, Center, Nippes, South and Grand Anse, are likely to be flooded.

The DPC calls on the population, in particular the inhabitants of risk areas to remain vigilant and to apply the usual safety instructions, in case of heavy rains and storms and reminds that should never be crossed rivers during floods.
