Haiti - Education : Towards the integration of the environment into the Haitian school curriculum

At the beginning of the week, the Department of Environmental Inspection and Surveillance (DEISE) of the Ministry of the Environment (MDE) officially launched an Environmental Education campaign intended initially, students from various schools in the metropolitan area, to raise awareness and mobilize the population around the protection of the environment.

If, on the one hand, the Ministry of the Environment and the Ministry of National Education work tirelessly to integrate the Environmental theme into the school curriculum, for the academic year 2018-2019, this MD activity plays an announcer role. Rony Horat, Director of DEISE, states that the general conditions of cooperation (technical, economic, legal, administrative and financial) between the two Ministries aim at the integration and the generalization of the concepts of environment and sustainable development at all levels of the Haitian education system, he said.

Conscious of the role of everyone and more specifically young people in the protection of the country's environment, the Ministry proposes to begin first with the students of the 3rd fundamental cycle to reach other socialization institutions, such as churches, lakous, media, community organizations, etc...

These training sessions will take place in the form of talks that will be animated by the MDE Managers, teachers, students etc...

These series, which began on May 3 at the Lycée Jean Mary Vincent de Caradeux (Commune Tabarre) will continue until national coverage.

For this first training session, the beneficiaries will be : Collège Mixte Saint-Laurent Samedi, le Collège du Cœur de Jésus, le Collège Jacques Désilien, Institution Mixte Classique Adonaï, Institution Mixte Genesis, Lycée Jn. Marie Vincent, École Nationale République d’Équateur, Lycée Horacius Laventure, Collège Frère Norbert Philippe, l’Université Lumière and the Université des sciences Administratives et de la Santé (UNISAS).
