Haiti - Politic : What will do Jovenel Moses in Taiwan ?

The break in diplomatic relations between the Dominican Republic and Taiwan has brought Taiwan closer to Haiti, whose government has reaffirmed its loyalty and confirmed that President Jovenel Moïse will visit Taiwan on Saturday, May 26, 2018, after the visit of Chancellor Rodrigue at the beginning of the month https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-24245-haiti-diplomacy-chancellor-antonio-rodrigue-in-taiwan.html

If the agreed formula wants this trip has for objective to reaffirm the loyalty of Haiti and strengthen diplomatic ties between the two countries, the purpose of this trip according to recent statements by Yang Cheng-ta, former Ambassador of Taiwan in Haiti, would be linked to a financial agreement including a low-interest loan of $150 million for the energy sector https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-24261-haiti-energy-taiwan-grants-a-loan-of-about-$150m-dollars-to-haiti.html

He points out that Haiti could make several loan applications on this occasion that Taiwan may not be able to grant. "It goes without saying that requests will be made at the next visit of Moise, or perhaps both sides have they have already reached an agreement, but in both cases, the amount of money involved could be very important," said Yang.

Former Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) Lin Yu-fang, head of the National Policy Foundation's Foreign Affairs and Defense Division at a Taipei press conference, is less optimistic about future relations between the two countries, saying that after the break-up of diplomatic relations between Panama and the Dominican Republic, Haiti, which already has a Chinese office in its territory, could do the same, an assumption rejected by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Joseph Wu that underline that Taiwan and Haiti have had relations since 1956 and are working closely to promote various cooperation programs.

Recall that the Minister of Communication Guyler C. Delva had said after the announcement of the Dominican break "Each country is headed in one way or another, but for now, it is with Taiwan that Haiti maintains diplomatic relations." https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-24282-haiti-news-zapping.html

Echoing Lin's point of view, former Ambassador to Haiti, Yang Cheng-ta acknowledges that the break-up of the Dominican Republic's ties with Taiwan could probably influence Haiti.
