Haiti - Social : The Dominican Justice will crack down against illegal evictions

Following the illegal evictions of our compatriots by the residents from the neighborhood of San José Las Minas (Santiago, Dominican Republic) https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-2437-haiti-social-the-dominicans-expels-some-haitians-from-their-neighborhood.html , Sigfrido Pared Perez, Director of Immigration, declared that the Dominicans and the neighborhood leaders who participated in these expulsions will be brought to justice for breaking the law.

Perez said that we can not allow citizens to assume the role of justice, these actions are irresponsible and an investigation is underway to identify those responsible. He doubts that these evictions have any effect because most Haitians expelled from these areas, will hide in other places, which complicates the operations against illegal immigration.

Sigfrido Pared Perez said that it is the first time in the history of the migration, that the Dominican Republic is facing to a situation of such magnitude, referring to the increase in illegal immigration since the earthquake of January 2010 and the number of Haitians living in Dominican territory estimated, according to sources, between 800,000 and more than one million.
