In a press note dated Saturday, the day after the discovery of the lifeless body of Gunter Widmaier (40), missing since 22 June https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-24821-haiti-news-zapping.html , Léon Rosard Saint-Cyr the Secretary of State for Public Security, congratulates the Haitian National Police (PNH) particularly the Central Directorate of the Judicial Police (DCPJ) for the prompt investigation conducted professionally, following the complaint filed by the Widmaier family.

The Office of the Secretary of State takes this opportunity to acknowledge the excellent collaboration of the Widmaier family as it went through a particularly painful ordeal. Unfortunately, despite the efforts made, the dead body of Mr Gunter Widmaier was found on the night of 29 June following the arrest of a 22-year-old suspect, who himself led the police to the scene of the tragedy.

The Office of the Secretary of State has good reason to believe that there was never any question of kidnapping as claimed by those who claimed ransom without being able to produce the proof of life claimed by the parents. No ransom was paid.

Despite the confession of the arrested suspect, that it is an accident that occurred during the consumption of illegal substance, the Office of the Secretary of State for Public Security is not able, for the moment, to confirm the circumstances of the death of Gunter Widmaier.
